Water Drop Falling II

People liked the first series of water drops so I did a second series.

These photos are all high power macro shots, in the 2X - 5X range. I gelled some of the lights to create the appearance of colored liquid. In reality the liquid in all cases is regular clear tap water.

In some of these shots, the water drops appear tranquil as if hovering in mid air. In fact, most of the drops are falling rapidly; the journey from the top of the frame to splashdown takes only a fraction of a second.

If I increased the flow rate the drops would form into a column of water. These columns featured vertical standing waves; these remained stationary but could be varied based on the flow rate.

Some of these photos are available as fine art prints in my Gallery. I hope you enjoy this strange little water world!

Small Planet Drop

This is my favorite shot of the sequence. It looks like a little planet earth even though it's just a teensy drop of water.
